Comments:
Got a late start Friday night and did not do well at all. 40 and 80 meters was
open to EU, but found it almost impossible to make any Q's due to the
overwhelming signals from the US. Wound up calling it an evening early on.
Attended the Myrtle Beach hamfest Saturday and did not get back home until after
dark. Again the bands were pretty crowded with EU and American stations, but was
able to get some Q's in the log on 40 and 80 meters, 80 seemed easier to work EU
than 40 was until around 1 AM when the bands started to get noisy. Moved to 160
only to find out there was an issue with my inverted L, very high SWR across the
entire band so made the decision to stop and try again on Sunday. I had much
better luck Sunday, had openings on 15 and 20 all day to EU,the Caribbean,
Central and South America. Did only S&P, tried to run a couple of times but
could not justify the loss of time calling over and over and not getting any
answer. To me, it was a struggle to work DX due to QRM and QSB. I almost seemed
like when the signals were strong you had to fight to get a Q but when they were
weak you could work them with one or two calls. Took some time to look at my 160
antenna, and found a bad solder connection on the PL-259. Only got two countries
on 160, but was happy just to be able to work EU, considering my inverted L is
only about 30 feet tall before the bend.
