K3/100, HI-Q 4/80, CQ/X 1.8.1.0, 2002 Pathfinder

At the 599DX Holiday Dinner Mississippi SCM Mal-W5XX suggested that we do the MS
QP again in 2018 and requested that we include some of counties in the Delta to
the route. After several iterations of a route coming out of New Orleans and
including some Delta counties we arrived at a route that went about as far north
in the Delta as possible while still finishing up the party at the MS-LA border
near Slidell, about 50 miles from New Orleans. It amounted to a total drive of
about 700 miles but with two to share the driving and operating it did not seem
that long at all and we kept very close to the schedule even after being about
15 minutes late getting to the LA-MS border due to waiting out a storm that
passed through the area.

Here are the counties that we covered with number of Qs, initial ten-minute rate
and first station in the log.

Holmes 64 84 K0AP
Sharkey 63 108 WB8WKQ
Attala 48 126 N4TB
Covington 44 114 K2DSW
PearlRiver 43 84 K8NYG
Franklin 43 60 AE4Y
Rankin 40 138 NA8V
Humphreys 39 120 K4BAI
Madison 37 162 KA5VZG
Warren 36 72 K0AP
Simpson 32 54 DL3DXX
Hancock 29 84 K2DSW
Jefferson 28 78 WB8WKQ
Washington 26 108 W5XX
Pike 25 96 K4BAI
Lincoln 24 126 W4IHI
Harrison 24 66 K2DSW
Adams 24 90 WB9CIF
Amite 22 102 K5SGE
Claiborne 22 78 K2DSW
Yazoo 20 108 WB8WKQ
Hinds 17 96 K0AP
Stone 15 54 K2DSW
Lamar 13 6 N8II
Forrest 12 42 K0AP
Issaquena 9 48 K4BAI

K2DSW was the clear winner in the early pounce category closely followed by
K0AP, WB8WKQ, and K4BAI. Issaquena, one of the Delta counties, was a
disappointment. There were stations calling but they were weak and the power
line noise was S9. Our apologies if you were calling in Issaquena and all you
got from us was a CQ. We were concerned that Sharkey, which followed Issaquena,
was going to be more of the same but it turned out to be the start of signals
coming up and power line noise abating somewhat. Holmes was one of our longest
counties and had good activity, possibly because it contained a grid square
corner and our route touched on each of the grid squares. Coming out of Attala
to I-55 began our "take it to the coast" segment with counties along
that part of the route providing some of our best rate with good signals and low
noise. That was probably the most operating fun of the trip.

During the party we worked a total of 231 different stations and appreciate the
Qs from each, but the following core group of followers stayed with us long
enough to account for more than half of our Qs and deserve a special thank you:
K2DSW(36), K0AP(25), WB5JID(20), WB8WKQ(19), K5KPE(19), K4AMC(17), WN4AFP(15),
KJ4IWZ(14), KQ3F(13), KE5LQ(13), NW0M(13), WB9HFK(13), W9DC(12), DL3DXX(12),
KC3X(11), N2CQ(11), KN4Y(11), W5TM(10), WA8ZBT(10), K4BAI(10), K9NW(10),
W9OA(9), K0HNC(9), N5NA(8), W4XK(8), K4VIG(8), W4IHI(8), KU8E(8), K1RO(7),
K3SEW(7), N2JNE(7), K9UIY(7).

Thanks to Skip for riding along for a second MSQP sharing in the operating and
driving. Also thanks to Norm-W3DYA for coming over from Texas to help out and to
Jim-KC4HW for coming over from Alabama.

Next up for NO5W/m will be the FQP where Ted-KN5O and I will be sharing the
operating and driving duties. You can check out our route and the currently
planned activity of others at http://www.no5w.com/FQP_AnnouncedPlans.html.
