Comments:
I had planned to do a full SO2R effort, but when I arrived at the station on
Friday afternoon things were in disarray. The recent Nor'easter storm did a job
on the station; I had no antennas for 160, 80, or 20M. Not wanting to waste a
good weekend, I decided to do SOSB 15 and 40m. Worked my first European at
1800z; I was able to start running about 1940z. For perspective, sunset here is
about 2300z. Once sunrise hit Russia, I hung in there for another hour, until
CQing was unproductive and there was nothing left to S&P on.
Got up about 1000Z, and found that the 40M beam wouldn't turn. With the temp
down to 18F (-7C), the rotor on the 40m was frozen. I did manage to work
another station, but could never hear a JA or a RA0.
Oh- on 15M, I had 26 QSOs, 12 DXCC, and 0 oblasts. Saw a lot of Russians
spotted, but never heard one.
Conditions on 40M were not very good. Russians were spotted all night that I
could not hear, and there was only a small sunrise enhancement of signals. This
contest is sure a lot more fun when conditions are good!
Thanks to Greg W1KM for the use of his station.
