Comments:
K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC.
N3UM and W3GB did Feb. 2018 NAQP RTTY Multi-Op, using 1 of the 2
allowed transmitters, setting up ad using our other TX for CQ 160 SSB.
We do some RTTY to support PVRC, using AFSK, a Signalink, and an
Orion, with the digital filter bandwidth at 400 Hz and PBT at +2 kHz
to center the filter on the AFSK tones. This works well to keep strong
off-freq. signals from capturing the AGC.
In Feb. 2017 NAQP RTTY, bugs in this setup showed up at
the last minute, then there were thunderstorms. This year the
gear worked well and no storms, so we did much better, 160 vs 51 Qs.
>From 18-22Z we made 90 QSOs, all but 3 on 20 and 40m. We
broke away to focus on CW 160 SSB until 0040, then N3UM made 70
more RTTY Qs, 17 more sect mults, and XE before QRT at 0310Z.
Propagation and activity were good on 20 and 40 m., especially
to the west; we got 26 CA Qs and 15 in TX. We expect better RTTY
scores in future NAQPs; now gear is working and ops are more skilled.
