Comments:
My station runs partially off batteries on a regular bases at my QTH. I decided
to run the radios, laptop and lighting from the batteries and charge them with
solar and a small 300 watt generator. This was a test to see if I could
maintain communications should we have a shut down of Hydro power. I am happy
to say that the station ran from 11:00am Saturday to 5:30pm on battery and
solar power. I started the generator around 7:00pm to top up the batteries, all
times are PDT. I operated from 2:00am to 3:00am and from 8:30am to 10:00am with
battery power only. Do to shade at my property the solar did not get serious
until 11:00am and the event was done so I had to use the generator for the last
hour of field day.
My operating time was limited by factors other than power so I think the test
proved my ability to operate without hydro power.
Thanks to all the stations that I worked.
