Comments:
K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. The Jan.
2017 ARRL VHF contest overlapped all but one of the 12 hr. of the
NAQP SSB test. I (N3UM) wanted to do both, so I did SO2C: Single
Operator, 2 contest; SOLP 3-band in the VHF, and Multi-2 Assisted
with W3GB in the NAQP.
Sat. I did the first hr. of NAQP, 18-19Z, then the first 2 hr.
of VHF 19-21Z, then back to NAQP until our last QSO at 0509Z Sun.
I did VHF again 16Z Sun. until 03Z Mon., with long breaks.
VHF activity was low to moderate, partly due to lack of any
E skip or exceptional tropo, maybe also due to NO lack of sports
on TV. I made 45 Qs in FM19 and 19 in FM18, 64 of my total 85 QSOs.
Many of these short-range Qs were relaxed chats with old VHF
buddies in PVRC, always pleasant. I made Qs on all 3 bands in FM17,
FN00, and FN10, and on 2 bands in FM28.
I only did 5.5 hr. BIC vs the 9.5 hr. we did as Limited Multi-Op in
Sept. 2016 VHF. Result, 30 fewer Qs and 22 fewer grid mults this
time, a reminder that you gotta be there to CQ or listen for the guys
who get on for a quick check of the bands, then back to TV sports.
