Comments:
Thanks to all who worked us this past weekend, especially on multiple bands.
Also thanks for those who moved (or attempted to move) bands for multipliers.
This originally started as a 3 man M/S, but two weeks before, our third op,
AI2N, unfortunately got injured and could not come. Even with two ops making
the trip to VP2M, this was an enjoyable time.
This is another operation from the Gingerbread Hill guest house, using the
available onsite tower and tribander/wires, supplemented with a K3 we brought.
There were no equipment failures for the entire weekend.
We had some power outages before and after the contest, but fortunately, we had
power all weekend. As it turned out, any time off more than a few minutes would
have made our score non-competitive.
Thanks to K2DM and K1XX for pre-trip support and information, to W2FU, K2TJ,
and AI2N for supplying various pieces of equipment for the trip, to our XYL's
for support during the contest, and to our hosts on the island for making
everything accommodating and enjoyable.
Band by band story (excuses) and rate sheets:
160: We did better here than originally thought possible with only 100w. Tried
some passes the second night, but no luck. Antennas: Sloping vertical for TX
and pennant for RX.
80: Good signal reports from all over on this band. Pileup first night
wouldn't shut up to listen! Probably a bit low on QSO's and could have probably
passed another few mults. Inverted V at 55' for TX, pennant for RX.
40: Had good runs here and didn't seem to have trouble holding a frequency, but
the band total seems to have come up a bit short. We figure we could have had
another 100 Q's and a few more mults. Sloping dipole with end off the top of
the roof of the building, pennant on RX sometimes.
20: We had good rates and reports of good signals here. Fastest hours of the
contest were on 20. CL-33 at 55'.
15: Reliable during the day with decent rates. Best band total of the contest.
Only missed the odd Canadian provinces here. CL-33 at 55'.
10: We tried to make something happen here, but propagation was very spotty.
Continued montoring of packet and RBN helped us know when the band might be
open here. Good multiplier count on an otherwise closed band. No real rate,
but all things considered, not bad. CL-33 at 55'.
