I went to the Bahamas to volunteer in the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic golf
tournament. I applied for a license and was granted C6ADM, so I took my KX3
and a spool of wire with me. My fervent hope was that I would have enough of a
signal to work at least one of my brothers in the contest. I was able to work a
few stations in the CWT Wednesday evening, including AA3B on 80M, so I had hopes
of working at least someone on 160M Friday evening. HAH! I heard lots of loud
stations, the loudest of which was C6AGU. It took me three tries to get
through to him, so I knew I was in trouble. No one else could copy me. Then
my batteries died. Undaunted, I went out and bought a new set. I found Peter
(K3ZM), but he never heard me. I found Jeff (VY2ZM), but he never heard me.
Even the loud Caribbean stations never heard me. Then my batteries died.
Enough! Next time I will take a small power supply and more wire.
