Comments:
This is in memory of Milt, N5IA. Even though my station is a pip squeak compared
to what he had, we would spend several hours after a 160 contest discussing the
finer points of what happened.
Just a short time, token effort, to try to work some Europe on Saturday night.
Started operating at 04Z. S50K and IK0YUT each took my run frequency, so
clearly my signal had no presence in Europe. Moved up higher in the band,
dejected. An OM3 called me blind, probably from a packet spot. He never did
hear me reply. EA2OT called in at 0526Z, good signal - maybe there is hope.
Nothing more out of Europe until 0615Z, when I broke a small pileup to TM5X.
Interesting. Back to running. At 0627Z, the band cracked opened. Started with
DF0WRTC. Had a slow, but steady stream of western Europe, concluding with G4AMT
at 0757Z. 32 EU total. Not bad for a poorly-functioning shunt-fed tower on a
no-conductivity rock in southwest New Mexico.
Thanks for the QSO's.
73,
Steve, N2IC
