Comments:
Worked hard before this one getting station ready. Added a new feedline to the
Inv. L, Reworked the NE Bev and added a SE 500ft Bev. Started out slow but sigs
were strong from all of the Eastern US. Not long after sunset the West Coast
started coming in and eventually some 6/7's were tru S9 on my NW Bev. Couldn't
find much European activity when S&Ping but managed 4 on Friday night,
HG8DX, G5W, CS2C and of couse the CR2X. I found KH7M at 0700Z and he was in the
log at 0714Z. Then KH6AT called me at 0923Z during a run, he always finds me,
amazing! After I worked KH7M I realized I was close to working all 50 states,
only needing WY,ME,& KL7. I heard a weak stn clg and when I switched to the
NW Bev, I barely heard the call WC7S calling, and after a few repeats, WY was in
the log( He was QRP!! ) Soon after that I started S&Ping and found a lonely
KL7KY calling CQ with no takers, he just CQed in my face time and time again so
I wrote the freq down and moved on. At 1144Z I found WW1ME for my first Maine,
Thanks. So now I only needed KL7 for WAS. I went to the freq I wrote down and
nadda! I just started tuning up with the 250Hz filter on and found him again a
little higher up. Same thing again as he was just cqing with a few replies. So
I figured I would just keep trying while tuning on the 2nd VFO. Well I
eventually got a "IX?" so after a coulple dozen tries, KL7 was in the
log at 1158Z, time to pull the plug and get some sleep ( Temp was 40deg in my
shack which only has an extension cord from my house feeding electric into the
shed ). 600Q's 53 ST/PR & 10 countries the first night and WAS!! Managed to
hear PW1D, CW5W & CE3CT on the SE Bev the first night but never got a ? from
anyone. Day 2 started off slow as predicted. Never got good rates but just kept
switching back and forth between running and S&Ping. Since rates were slow
I decided to listen hard for Europeans that seemed workable and most of the
audible ones were under or close to a NE USA Big Gun. Over the next few hours I
managed to work about 23 more Europeans all of them being mults. Most of the Q's
took multiple calls and repeats but they hung in there until the Q was complete.
2 QSO's were exceptions, I heard a very loud P33W with a gud size pileup calling
him but after just one call from me, he was in the log...Thanks. Also found ER4A
in the clear calling and figured he was probably running mega power and woudn't
copy me, but after 2 calls, he was in the log...go figure!! After European
sunrise things got super slow, the shack was cold, so I decided to switch in
the SE Bev and tune the band and work what I could hear ( The SE Bev attenuated
most of the N, NE big guns and I was able to hear alot of weaker stations in
between ). I ran across FY5KE and he went into the log, then found CW5W louder
than he has been all weekend. After several tries he was in the log...Yeah!!
Found PW1D and CE3CT again but they never gave me a ?. Had a weak HI8A call me
during a small run also.
