With only a vertical for 20m and above, I didn't hear much activity during the
first couple of hours. For me it was tedious search, search, search and
eventually pounce. Even 40m didn't have much activity. Had to QRT late
afternoon and drive to Manassas for a meeting, but when I got home at 0330, 80m
was exploding with activity.
A pleasant surprise to this CW man was the genial quality of the exchanges,
sometimes including a little chat. Friendly, not rushed. Worked a number of
PVRC members, too--"Go PVRC!" One member, Tim/N3QE, must have been up
all night soldering together an electronic alter ego named "Tina" who
somehow understood and responded. What a goofy, blessedly brief, and ultimately
enjoyable contest!
