Comments:
This NAQP-CW was a time of mixed emotions. The Willamette Valley DX Club (WVDXC)
decided to honor our highly esteemed colleague, N7OU, who became a silent key
just before the New Year. WVDXC members used Bill's name in our exchanges.
Bill Vanderheide was an extraordinary amateur radio operator in the best
tradition of the Radio Amateur's Code. Bill was a soft-spoken gentleman, an
expert contester, an effective and efficient DXpeditioner, a sought-after
convention and club meeting speaker, a 7-land QSL bureau sorter, and an
educator who taught locally in Oregon and on some of the Pacific Islands from
which he operated during visits. Bill and his friend, Bob W7YAQ, have added
multiple new DX entities to my DXCC totals over the years as well as teaching
me through their presentations. All Hams and the WVDXC will sorely miss Bill's
(N7OU's) golden fist.
73, Jerry
