Every year I make an overview of contests for the XYL ... so she knows when she
can and can not bug me with chores :) Then I noticed that this weekend the
first interesting contest of the year takes place: the ARRL RTTY Roundup. We
never participated in that contest so just briefly before the contest we
decided to participate. Mainly to get some more experience in RTTY contesting,
as we both run low on RTTY experience. For instance to manually decypher a
report like TOO PIO PIO ... Also I had done some re-arranging on the 80m and
40m dipoles so this would be a good test.
Except for 1 time that the Acom 2000 jumped into protection on 80m (we quickly
found that the internal tuner in the Orion was switched on for that band), we
had no issues ... I checked N1MM+ before the contest and made some minor
changes to the setup and also checked if MMVARI was working as I read in the
contest rules this is an RTTY / PSK contest. Unfortunately we didn't make any
QSO in PSK ... I checked today several spots but those where just CQ DX callers
... Signals weren't really strong, although I did work ZL on 15m, and USA West
Coast on 20m. No VK or JA's in the log. 96 W/VE wkd.
Nice to see our good friend Steve NR4M on 20 and 40 :) ... and thanks to
Aurelio's baking efforts for the excellent Tiramisu ;)
