Comments:
CX is a long way from USA! Saturday GMT very noisy- did manage to work two
stations (K5NA, K3ZM). Unfortunately, new 4-square did not work for this
weekend, but being heard was not the problem. At the station, there were 2
listening antennas: an 800ft beverage for USA, and an 800Ft beverage for
Europe. Also remember, for comparison purposes, it will be the start of summer
in 14 days in CX, so noise level is at summer levels.
Second night went much better. During Saturday day, Jorge finished off a set
of phased beverages for the USA. Both were 800ft long, separated by 375 ft.
They worked very well, providing yet another set of ears for USA. Using all 3
beverages was very interesting; stations were louder on one beverage rather
than another for no reason. For example, a W6 might be loudest on the single
beverage, a W9 on the European beverage, and a W1 on the phased beverages which
are aimed at the USA west coast. For any station, you still had to try all 3 to
find the best one. In any case, I did make 30 QSOs the second night; the
additional beverage helped as did the quieter noise level. I was able to CQ,
hold a frequency, and "walk" for awhile.
Thanks to Jorge CX6VM for the use of his fine station here in CX.
