Comments:
The conditions were less than optimal this year - the K index was around 3 -
lots of flutter and weak signals.
I decided to pick one band to try to score 35 zones and 100 countries - I chose
40 meters. I met both objectives with 36 zones and 101 countries. Some
highlights include working VK6LW (zone 29) on long path, HS0ZAR (zone 26) and
9M6XRO (zone 28)two hours after our sunrise on Sunday morning. I missed zones
12 and 13 in South America, zone 23, and zone 34 - I heard SU90IARU on, but the
pileup from EU was insurmountable. I also scored 8Q7NV from zone 22 - a great
bargain. My Optibeam 2 element monobander is an absolute killer on 40 meters.
I also wanted to spend a little extra time on 160 and 80 meters to see how the
conditions would pan out. A lot of very weak signals, but better than it has
been. I rounded things out with some time on 10 meters - the band was weak and
there weren't a lot of pickings this year.
Some day I will put in a bigger effort than 12 hours - not this year...
