Comments:
Alex, KU1CW, had a last minute wild idea of 3 guys getting together with 3 rigs,
and seeing what we could do. Earlier this week I'd beautified an old telephone
pole on the property by capping it with a small tribander. That provided a
second antenna for the higher bands, enabling us to run two interlocked
stations on the same band during daylight - one running and the other
S&Ping - a novelty for Carl, WS7L, and me.
We found Murphy at every turn - ground loops, RFI, failing keyboards, fussy
connections, Windows errors, and all the other small disasters you'd expect
from a spur-of-the-moment multi-op. Oh, and a deluge of Oregon rain brought
some power line arcing that added a S9+30db noise signal to 80 and 40m for the
last few hours. But it was great fun.
Thanks to our KK7PR friends down the street (also a multi-2) for our only
6-band QSO (and also to WN6W, KD7VIK, K5TR and NX5M for 5-band QSOs).
It's always fun to connect with new and old voices from afar; thanks to all -
especially those who moved to give us QSOs on other bands.
73,
Bill, K2PO
