Comments:
We really appreciate that Phyllis once again permitted us to invade her
home on a non-DX contest weekend, and that Frank, W3LPL, provides us
with such a superb station from which to play in sweepstakes.
We were on our way to our best scores ever. But...
As usual we switch bands ever hour or two between whatever are the hot
bands as best as we can determine. So we catch slightly different
conditions and band densities but basically have about the same score
(one year separated by only 2 qsos, after discounting dups).
This year, however, Miriam had two very long 14+ hour days at work on Thu and
Fri, so after about 10 hours her voice completely vanished. So she went to
sleep a couple of hours early. Bob stayed in the chair a few more hours, then
got three hours rest. Both restarted at about 7:00am local Sunday. K3MIM's
voice again lasted about 10 hours; she finished up with some S&P on 15m and
20m while W3IDT finished his 24 hours on 40m. So, these are probably our second
best scores.
The new 8-circle 80m rx array at W3LPL is fabulous for W6s and W7s.
'MIM got to 82 sections very quickly, and picked off KP2XX during a
15m run. Later she also found K9VV/KP2. W3IDT was stuck at 78 or so
sections for many stressful hours (no VI, PR, NT, AK, and RI!), but
finally did get multiple RIs, AKs, (2) NTs, but only (1) VI and (1) PR
[and hopes for good logging accuracy]. The second ONN said that there
were only two of them on. Long time friend Ray, NM2O, who just moved to NNY,
called in; but other NNY stations did as well.
Yes, 4U1WB went in the log as MDC; the 4X4** also worked didn't!
SPOTS: We were each spotted well over 100 times, most from PVRCers and
quite a few from (probably) NCCC W6s. Thank you all!
With a 3 element 40 meter beam at 100' usually pointed NE to attract New
England, VE2, MAR, and NL stations, there were some amusing spots. Seems ON2NSV
didn't like that we ignored EU calls, saying a quick 59 MD only to those with
whom we started with a partial call. Note that PD0GIR only got close on the
family relationship
[Don't know who faked a spot for W3IDX from W3IDT.]
