Yuck. This report is only for my personal archives. Certainly not a score to be
proud of. I think I improved my two indoor antennas from what I had two weeks
ago. But the conditions this weekend sure pointed out a big difference between
CW and phone: on CW I pretty much worked everybody I could hear, but this
weekend on phone I either could not weasle my way through the pile-up or the
guy on the other end simply couldn't pull me through.
A phone contest is just useless for trying to test a new, marginal aerial.
The loudest signal I heard the whole time I was on was a 4X4 on 20 Meters
around 0200Z. He gave "Amir, Israel" to one of he Deserving.
One of the best signals I heard kept saying "You're five nine in New
Hampshire, name is -----, QSL?" He was wasting so much time I didn't
bother calling him. In fact there were a lot of lids, way too much rag-chewing,
too many words wasted in brutal QSB conditions. Listen up, boys, it is not
impolite to be brief.
