N1MM / MMTTY / 2T / FT897 / OCF Dipole Many thanks for a fun contest.
Previously, I've always run RTTY with my K3, but I didn't feel like packing it
up for the long flight to WV, so decided to use my FT897 which I keep as a
backup here in WV. Of course I forgot to bring a properly configured cable to
take advantage of the FT897's digital input, so the choice was to quickly build
one or attempt to use the MIC input for transmit. I managed to get the MIC
input to work with AFSK, so just went with that. The K3 is a joy to use with
RTTY; the FT897, not so much. Next time, I'll just pack the K3. A few hours
into the contest my wife mentions "Tonight is the block party. It's at
our house. We have a ton of peoople coming over in an hour. Here's a list of
stuff to get at the grocery store." It's all good. So my 2hr break turned
into a many hour break, and net, net, my full time plans became a part time
effort for this one. Hope everybody had fun on the bands and a fun weekend
overall. 73 KV4QS
