Not only did we operate full M/2 (checklog), but we were a distributed M/2 with
N2IC operating from his New Mexico QTH, and N5DX from his Arkansas QTH. Same
IARU zone, same USA call area, but 900 miles apart. The zones reported are
actually countries, and the score is calculated using WRTC scoring.
Kevin and Steve have never operated together. Even though we were still not
physically colocated, this was a good opportunity to practice our communication
skills using the N1MM talk window. We followed WRTC rules and never had more
than one station on a band at a time (i.e. we did not operate 20 CW and 20 SSB
at the same time). It was great fun "passing the baton" between us.
With thunderstorms and domestic chores, N2IC missed about 4 hours, while N5DX
kept his butt in the chair for all 24.
For those of you wondering about the propagation differences between NM and AR,
here's some statistics:
% QSO's from NM: 47.9%
% QSO's from AR: 52.1%
Overall % EU: 13.2%
%EU worked from NM: 2.6%
%EU worked from AR: 10.6%
Over % JA/SE Asia: 9.6 %
% JA/SE Asia from NM: 7.8%
% JA/SE Asia from AR: 1.8%
On the technical side, we used Hamachi VPN with N1MM Logger. Kevin used a K3,
and I used a TS-590. Worked perfectly. I can't say enough good things about
Hamachi. Free for 5 or fewer users, simple setup, flawless operation. If you
try this, be sure to start the VPN before starting N1MM Logger.
