Comments:

The thunderstorms that had been pounding Kansas moved east, so conditions were
good to Alabama from Kansas most of the day. Unfortunately those same storms
apparently caused problems for the AL gang. During the second hour, I worked
K5YAA/m in Winston county on 40, 20, 15, and 10 both CW and SSB! Not sure I've
ever done that before, at least not from out-of-state.

15m was good most of the day as well. A number of mobiles who had only 20/40
this year might consider adding 15 and give yourself another place to go when
the CQs start coming back unanswered.

Terrific job by the mobiles! Most were quite predictable and stayed around the
same frequencies making them easy to find. Special thanks to those of you who
dragged out a mic and helped me out in mixed mode.

44 N4ZZ/m - got faster as the QSO Party went on :-)
36 K5YAA/m - consistently loudest CW signal into Kansas.
30 NY4N/m - thanks for the SSB switches!
19 KN4Y/m - not loud, but easy to find.
11 W4AQP/m - not loud, but relatively easy to find.
10 KK4TE/m - consistently loudest SSB signal into Kansas.
09 KC4HW/m - kept popping up in a county I needed.
04 KB4KBS/m - finally discovered you on SSB heading to GA.
03 N4QP/m - a surprise entry.

Top fixed stations were N4KG, NV4B, and W4HOD with five contacts each. W4HOD
was a 5-bander on CW, and a number of other fixed stations were always there
when I tuned across the bands. I did call CQ for awhile on 160 during the last
half hour, but the noise level was just too high to pull anyone in.

Overall, I worked (mixed) 64/67 counties missing only Cherokee, Clarke, and
Monroe. NY4N/m went through Cherokee early, KK4TE/m went through Clarke before
I found him, and KC4HW/m was in Monroe according to the posted schedule, so it
seems all the counties were on this year. I worked five more CW counties than
last year and the same number of SSB counties with 43 unique calls. Almost all
my operating this year was S&P, netting one less QSO than last year with a
higher percentage CW.

Like last year, Lorna and I just got back from a trip to NC and Florida,
returning through Alabama on May 30th. Lorna had to get back to get ready for a
conference or we would have added the AQP to our mobile run list this year. It's
a beautiful part of the country for sure.

It was great to hear Jim/KC4HW back on and at the helm once again. We have you
to thank for getting the counties on the air! Thanks also to the Alabama
Contest Group for sponsoring the AQP, and thanks to all who participated and
made this another fun year in the land of the talla and the oosa.

73, Bob, w0bh

PS We'll be listening for you all in the 2013 Kansas QSO Party on August 24-25.
