Comments:

As far as the contest went, we had bad news a few days before contest that a
major CME from the Sun was to hit sometime on Saturday, We descided we would
muddle through the possible propagation affecting event. We were very happy to
beat our best scores from past efforts. The only bands we felt we did poorly on
were 80 and 160 mtrs as we had very bad QRN, but we were very happy with our Qs
and Mults on all other bands and as usual, 40 and 15 produced most our Qs and
Prefecture Mults. We also managed to do very well on 10 meter band. Friday
night was interesting trying to quell some pileups from EU as we called CQ for
JAs ! We had no choice other than to pass out some signal reports to the EU
stns and then continue on milking 40 mtrs for JA QSOs. Hoping to do 1,000 Qs
and 200 Mults next JIDX !

W6V Call Sign was acquired to pay tribute to our contest site host, Nash
Williams, W6HCD, who passed away 3 days before contest. We had considered
cancelling doing the contest when we got notice from Nash's son, Gary, on
Wednesday morning, but, 2 hours after the sad news, Nash's son (not a licensed
amateur) Gary called me to request that we NOT cancel as that was one of Nash's
request, communicated to Gary, before Nash became Silent Key. Nash was 97 years
YOUNG and really enjoyed hosting the San Diego Contest Club at his spectacular
360 degree horizon, hilltop site ( @ 900 ft ASL ) in SW Fallbrook.
Knowing that Nash had retired from JPL ( Jet Propulsion Labs) as a Launch
Vehicle Integration Specialist and that Nash had been instrumental in planning
launch activities for Missions to MARS by Voyager and Viking Spacecraft, SDCC
decided that W6V would be an appropriate Call Sign to honor Nash. ( We
contemplated using Nash's Call, W6HCD (SK), but didn't thing that was legal, so
we opted for the commemorative call sign, W6V.

We know Nash was smiling down upon us and we all wish Nash Godspeed to the
other side of the Universe.

73, Dennis N6KI
