Comments:
Murphy struck well and often. Sunday AM during the EU run, fried a vacuum relay
in the ALPHA 78. Had to take it off the operating desk and replace it with a
manual tune ALPHA 76PA. Lost time. Saturday night blew up 2 MFJ tuners, one
that was just back from repair! (same problem). Thought I had cured the RF
problem in the keying line with type 31 snap on cores. I never checked 160m
before the test. Result...only 10 minutes on the band with low power.
Very narrow window to Asia on 10m and missed the openings both days !!! 10m
scatter path to eu on Saturday...really worried that it wouldn't open on
Sunday. Probably spent too much time there. Sunday 10m opened direct path, but
not a very strong opening. I only worked 1 SM and 1 OH and they were extremely
weak. (both were the usual big guns!
20m was a real surprise. Nice EU opening Friday night, nice daytime openings
both days. No daytime absorption!
40m was the real surprise. It opened to EU around 2pm local time each day and
they actually were hearing and working US!
Thanks for the qsos.
