Comments:

Without a doubt the worst conditions on 160 for a contest yet. Only worked a
few Eu's and many W's could not hear me calling incessantly. Sometimes I would
call CQ for an hour and get one station. When a W4 kept asking me for my
"state" over and over saying "don't send me a number send me your state" I
after calling him for ten minutes...I finally decided enough was enough and
pulled the switch. I came back on Sunday morning and was able to work a few
West Coast stations and things were a bit better with less need to call some
one 30 times before they got my call. Under bad conditions the real killer are
directional antennas like Beverages and 4 Squares that never look in my
direction. East Coast stations looking NE to EU or to the West adds another 20
db of attenuation in my direction which when added to poor conditions makes even
operating such a contest a total exercise in futility. When stations running s9
plus 10 over don't even hear a part of my call of them, it is time to quit and
hope for better days ahead.
