After a NOGO in the SSB leg last month I decided on thursday to attempt to
defend my 1st place in last years UBA CW in the 6 Hrs low power class .
As I am still very much restricted in antenna possibilities , thanks to my
landlord , I led a ground screen on the tall terrace last fall so that I had
some grounding on the penthouse level for vertical antennas.
Built up a DX Wire glas fibre mast 16,2 m high and guyed it up on 3 levels.
In order not to loose precious time tuning manually at the feedpoint I took a
SGC 230 Auto ATU . This thing did the trick very well and made a bandchange
very easy .
The contest took place under somewhat better propagation then ARRL CW last
weekend. Even a little break on 10 m was possible with the long vertical.
I was nicely surprised to see 15 m open so well and soo long as it did last
weekend . Some more multipliers would have been welcome .
20 m was my best band and gave me some nice runs . On 40 m where I only stayed
1 hour it sounded as if signals where rather weak and subject to fast and deep
qsb . 80 m was very noisy on the vertical and I had to switch between the
indoor attic folded dipole and the vertical to be able to get the 1 hr 69 qso
score after what time I had to stop to stay in the 6 hr time limit .
All in all one can be happy to see what is possible with a temporary 1 antenna
an ATU setup , considering that most of the other contenders in my class are
gifted with a yagi and dipole antennas .
My score improved comparing to 2010 and 2011 by a nice margin :
2010 368 qso / 85 mults / 79.815 points
2011 376 " / 96 " " / 93.600 " "
Thanks to all those who made it into the log but sorry to those I could not
copy.

Ant vertical 16,2 m high with automatic ATU ( elevated @ 7 m over ground )
Best 73 and good contesting ,
