Comments:
George, K4GM, and I decided to do this just for the fun of it. I'm rather new
to RTTY contesting, so wanted to experiment and learn. George, just wanted to
have fun.
Decided months ago to make the move over to N1MM, and have been able to make
things work on CW. The week prior to the contest, I got all the K3 stations up
and running with N1MM, but NEVER could get the Orion II and Omni 6 working on
10/15. (Software can make you feel soooooo small....) Forced to used brand
'W', which I have been using with no real issues for years. ALL the rigs
immediately work with 'W', so went with that.
Discovered 3 of the rotators had been left plugged into their cables, and they
wouldn't work. Maybe got 'popped' by lightning? Two others, that had cables
'un-wired' for the summer, had lost their color-coding tape, so no real idea of
what went where. Big 'Italian rotator' on 4 ele 40 still not working. Total
exasperation here! Didn't bother to hook up the Beverages.
At least, K7SV had the good sense to part all the antennas to EU when last
used.
Made it more of a challenge to work SA and AS.
Remember, working ( or trying to work) VE7CC on 15 off the 'tips' of the 15
meter stack. Apologies for frustration.
I guess I should add 'Mr. Murphy' to the list of operators.
Thought band was noisy first day.
Had plenty of stations to keep me occupied. Thought 15 was better than 20
during the last 8 hour segment.
Was a good workout for recently rebuilt 80 and 20 amps.
George and I finished off an opened bottle of Scotch, which I'm not sure helped
the score.
Thanks to all the ops who are helping me learn how to contest in this mode.
Thanks for the contacts.
