Comments:
This was supposed to be a casual effort. However, crappy weather prevented me
from leaving the house. So I dabbled on and off all weekend. Judging by
conditions, I am glad it wasn't a full out effort as they were pretty bleak
here.
15m was open solidly to SA during normal hours. Sporadic E assisted us in
working many close in stateside stations. A few powerhouse EU stations were
heard on 15m but no contacts were made. Good opening to VK/ZL/FO however Friday
night.
20m only opened briefly to EU late Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Even then
signals were clearly affected by the Aurora flutter.
40m was very noisey and offered up very few EU stations. Several more were
heard but again, not able to put them in the log.
10m opened on Sunday to SA and the Zone 8 areas with decent signals. Again
sporadic E helped work several stateside stations. If more had tried 10m, they
might have been surprised.
Two major annoyances...
1. the stations that only ID every 5 or more contacts. Really cuts the S&P rate
way down.
2. The big stations that even late in the contest continue to fire out CW at 30
- 40 wpm with long periods of CQ'ing. Maybe if they slowed down some of us
casual ops would be able to copy their call signs and give them a call.
Thanks for the Q's and the patience!
Ed
