Comments:
I had no clue I would get interested in staying in the event, as propagation had
kept me non-competitive the last few years. But I had just re-deployed my hunk
of wire - an off-center fed dipole that stretches around 250 feet for such a
non-DX opportunity. I got a late start, only got a half hour of operating time
Sunday morning. The majority of participants could hear my QRP signal, so the
only difference is 100 watts would have let me run at some of those other
multipliers I heard (and didn't count out of envy). Much of the time the
mobiles could not hear me (or the pile-ups too big)- but a nice surprise was
finding a couple ops with rather recent calls operating from Grayson/Galax line
- wow. I even found a multiplier on 160m - I wish more would get on top band.
Single band awards could bring passionate interest from a few folk in the Old
Dominion who don't want to sit too many hours for this one. TNX to the
sponsors and participants, and those who worked hard to get me into the log.
