Comments:
Lost 160m & 80m antennas in wind storm the previous week. 2pm Friday decided to
throw up an 80m dipole at 65 feet. Two mistakes...The dipole had been sitting
in the shed for 2 years, already wired with a vintage hy-gain center insulator
and # 12 stranded wire. Mistake # 1...I never checked its' length. Mistake #2,
I needed to spend 1 hour climbing with the dipole and 200 feet RG8X. While
everything went up ok, I was extremely sore with muscle spasms. To make matters
worse, the antenna didn't seem to resonate anywhere. Fortunately the antenna
tuner was able to match it in the shack. It seemed to work ok...I didn't miss
anything I heard, but definitely not as good as my sloper at 120 feet.
All antennas worked fine, but I am definitely not an ssb operator. I just can't
stand the splatter and the constant racket. A special thank you to the big gun
OH8 who called me during a solid run on 20m on Sunday morning. I had him as a
dupe, but he told me that I wasn't in his log. I exchanged reports with him and
then he immediately decided to start calling CQ right on frequency and refused
to acknowledge my request to qsy. That is true ham spirit! I eliminated him
from my log!!!
Thanks for all the qsos.
