Comments:
After girding my loins for the anticipated tough Friday night on 40/80M, and
wondering what effect the recent solar flare would have on band conditions, I
was pleasantly surprised. Thanks to all those who worked to pull my signal out
of the mud! I will make an effort next year to note, as others have done, those
ops with the proverbial "Golden Ears", but I was lax in doing so this year -
sorry!
It was nice to be able to hold a run frequency on 20M Saturday around 1800Z --
managed about 70 Qs in that hour, which is near ecstasy for a QRP op accustomed
to dogged S&P. Even the dog-walking breaks were helpful this year: the very
windy, cold weather restored alertness, and I learned that it is possible to
type fast with fingers still frozen into a claw configuration.
Best catch of the contest was V51YJ on 10M before the pileup built too much. I
broke last year's Q count at 1539Z Sunday, then shifted to trying to catch mults
on 15 and 10M for a bit. Great to hear old friends KR7C and W8XN in the fray,
but I envy their K3s!
Rig: K2 @ 5W
Ant: Lazy H, cut for 20M, half-wave spacing between the doublets, fed in the
center of the phasing line for multi-band operation.
