Comments:
Operated from the east end of Langley AFB (FM17tc) but ouch was it cold out
there!
Only station worked was K5VIP in FM16 although I heard these stations: K1JT
(FN20), K8GP (FM19), K1TEO (FN31). I tried and tried to get their attention but
no luck! How about a "QRZ QRP" once in a while guys?
The best place to do this QRP would have been Shenandoah National Park's
Skyline Drive. But I wasn't up to the 6 hour round-trip drive and temps in the
20F to 10F range.
This seemed to be a one frequency (144.200) contest. A big gun sits on the
calling freq and works contest QSOs. So people answer him...OK so why don't
these non-big guns go up a few kc and call CQs so someone other than the big
guns get QSOs? I heard several loud stns reply to the big guns but no CQing by
them on the rest of the band.
Given the weather in most of the country in January...I think it would be
better to move this contest to another date (maybe mid-May before Dayton?). VHF
picks up around early/mid May but there's no real VHF contest at that time.
CQ CONTEST!
