Had a blast. I felt good. Things seemed to work as planned, except my 80m wire
would not tune up in the SSB range. I said to hell with it and transmitted
anyway, and never had a problem being heard. Strange. Thankfully the radio
lived through it to see better days. Low QRN on 80m -- it was great!
I obviously don't have the knack for knowing when to operate on the proper
band. 40m seemed fairly dead to me on CW and SSB the many times I checked.
I tried both wires. Not sure, but I'm guessing I just wasn't on 40m at the
right time. Made some 20m Qs. By far 80m was the band where I garnered the
most Qs. Didn't even check 10m; made one Q on 15m.
Worked a lot of OH counties and a lot of ops I recognize. I didn't manage to
work anybody in BELM, CARROLL, HARR, although I think I heard one of the
mobiles down in Belmont but they disappeared before I could respond. I was
really hoping for a sweep of Ohio -- the stations were there. I just lacked
what was needed to complete that task.
Great contest. Lots of participation. Thanks to everyone who jumped in the
game!
