Comments:
One of the best FDs I have had the pleasure of participating. W4HOD set up in
the small town of Notasulga, Alabama in Macon County. As we put up our tower
and wire antennas, we were the center of attention to most of the motorists
driving by. The FD location is beside the Post Office and we had several
neighbors and Post Office customers come up to see what we were doing.
Six members of W4HOD participated: K9MUG, KI4KUT, KI4TWB, KI4EEY, KA4PKB, AND
AA4YL. A shout out to K9MUG for his tireless efforts on CW. He worked from
start at 1300 local time to after midnight Saturday, with only a short supper
break. A great thank you to John, KI4KUT for his help with mounting the tower
support and beam in 95 degree heat and similar humidity. We could not have done
it without John.
We ran 2A, mostly CW and RTTY. We did have 6 SSB contacts on 6 meters. We used
low power and used a triband beam, G5RV, and 6-meter vertical. Bob, KA4PKB an
Cheryl, AA4YL handled the RTTY station. The beam and G5RV worked very well.
Food was provided by a quick trip to Elmer's restaurant about 6 miles down
Alabama Highway 14. Elmer's has the biggest cheeseburgers I have ever seen in
my life.
W4HOD is a very small club, but I have never had such fun with a club as I do
with these guys. The teamwork between all of the members is truly what a club
is all about and I am proud to call them good friends.
