Comments:
Today I choose an excuse from the radio failure column. Back in March, VFO A
tuning on my 2 month old K3 froze up. It spent 6 weeks at Elecraft but they
couldn't replicate the problem. When I got it back last month, it worked fine -
until last night, when signals got raspy and then VFO A froze up about 10
minutes in. Since one suggestion from Elecraft was computer control hanging up,
I shut down N1MM and disconnected the serial cable - no difference. Apologies to
whoever I was working on 80 when I tried to make a QSO after powering up again.
Since Elecraft also mentioned a potential board seating problem, and since
handling by FedEx seemed to cure the problem when shipped back to Elecraft last
time, *and* since I'm very disappointed in the low reliability of this K3 and
wanted to let it know that, I did the old "one inch drop on desk test" and that
actually cured the problem! But by then it was after 0400...
