Well, that was interesting to say the least. My first time to use N1MM from my
home QTH (I used it in SB 40 efforts in Japan the last two years). Also the
first time to use Winkeyer USB.
I spent much of the day trying to get it working on my Vista laptop. It kept
shutting down or freezing. I had been most concerned about how to program the
messages and whether I would have trouble when N1MM switches in and out of S&P
mode, but I became more worried about whether the program would suddenly freeze
on me as it did about twenty times today. Fortunately it did not. I ended up
using the same messages I use in NA, and it worked, sort of. I forgot to learn
how to wipe an unneeded entry, how to change speed, and a few other important
things. But I made some progress. Thanks again to everyone who offered
suggestions on how to set up N1MM. The info was very useful.
My best antennas are still down so I used the 160 antenna for 80 and 20. I got
beat up pretty bad on 20 and 40, but 80 was good. No time to go to 160.
Participation and speeds seem to be going up steadily. That's great news.
I leave for 3 weeks in Europe early next week so I'll probably miss the next
four Thursdays. Look for me as GJ/W1NN (or possibly some GJ call) in WPX CW.
There's a slight chance that I will get on from GJ next Thursday night if I am
too jet-lagged to sleep.
73, Hal W1NN
