RADIO ARCALA GOES INTERNATIONAL
Radio Arcala, OH8X, held their Annual Meeting in the Azores in conjunction with
the WPX SSB contest over the past weekend. Along with many strategy items,
relating to both technology and human resources, some key decisions surfaced.
After the first few years of being more domestic-oriented as far as the
operator
setting is concerned, the scene is now about to change as Radio Arcala will
invite operators from three (3) continents adding to their current operator
roster.
While the week was predominantly social in nature, the weekend was set to put
the current EU record to rest, with each member having his fair share of
operating hours and good feeling of a serious record breaking attempt. When off
duty, the operators spent time touring the island and tasting the delicacies
only found in the Azores.
And indeed, a new WPX SSB EU record is now under their belts.
The operating team members of the new Arcala will be announced shortly to match
their established targets and to make best use of the improving radio
propagation, both from the North at OH8X and the South at CQ8X, with equal
scores targeted for both.
Radio Arcala team were delighted to have both Rich, N6RC and Carsten, DL6LAU
travel South, and they extended a word of thanks to Jose, CU2CE and Francisco,
CU2DX for making them all feel welcome and giving them a helping hand, as
always.
