Comments:
Murphy made it interesting. First the antenna mast wouldn't go up, motor just
hummed, so several hours were spend with 4-band yagi (40-10, only ant) at 22
feet. Tried again and this time it went up to its intended 71 feet. Good. But
then IC-7600 decided not to operate on 40, so spent some time swapping out
756-Pro -- which worked but wouldn't record a cq-contest message, discouraging
running. So (intending to go to 20 and 15 for a time anyway) swapped back the
7600, which for some reason now agreed to work on 40. Then the rotator control
decided to stop showing which way the ant was pointed (holding down the control
and then running outside -- several hundred feet to where I could see the ant
through the trees -- showed that it WAS turning, but given that I couldn't
tell where it was pointed I just left it at more or less 60 degrees - didn't
seem to matter all that much; worked a VK and DU off the back of the beam). A
few other lesser glitches, but even so a lot of fun. Several good (for me)
runs more than made up for some periods where nobody heard me. And
17 10-meter Qs were my first on that band in a couple of years; probably should
have gone up there sooner. Overall, pretty good show.
