ICOM 756 PRO III
Acom 2000A
Cushraft Logperiodic ASL2010 @ 15m (rotated manually)
Had a cunning plan to work again on 20m, and try to beat my result from last
year.
Started on 20 ... a good start, great USA opening, but then after QSO 146 @
01:07GMT "BUUUM" ... electricity was gone. The reason was 2 KW battery charger
(for solar system backup) that kicked in at 01,00 GMT. My fault ... forgot to
change the clock mechanism settings.
FYI, houses (single phase AC) here are equipped with front-end "no can fix
after fault" fuse-box of 15 Amps, and this poor thing could not survive Acom +
2KW charger. Tried to bypass, no luck, so gave up the contest that night.
... next day went to town to buy the fuse box and replaced it.
Went on 15 meters just for fun, starting 11.30 GMT (late start). The start was
really good. First day yielded abt 3,000,000 pts with close to 1,500 QSOs. Next
day was a bit slower (again made mistake and slept till 09,00GMT).
The band was in really great shape, and I am really happy with the result after
only 20 1/2 hrs of work.
Two hours before end, another problem with voltage ... this time mains dropped
down to 190 VAC, ACOM started to reset itself every few minutes ... too
annoying. Anyhow, the band was almost closed, so I called it a day.
Great fun!
Hope some of the guys worked seriously this category ... the band was really
crowded.
73!
