Comments:
Operated from KP2 via remote again but with multiple Murphy strikes.
Apologies to Tor/N4OGW - we had just started a QSO and everything locked up and
crashed (this happened 6 or 7 times during the NS tonight causing much lost
time). Not fun ;-(
I worked a few folks in the SNS, but sent exchange info manually via the
onboard SEND CW window in TR4W (remotely). Then starting the NS, I discovered
my TR4W NS .cfg exchange still had CA instead of VI, and K6VVA in one spot.
Due to the present LogMeIn system, I could not immediately access the ALT + P
command remotely to quickly revise the messages. So I had to close TR4W,
search for the .cfg file and manually make the changes before reloading TR4W.
The remote connection crashed in the middle of the process.
Unless we can find a more reliable Internet connection, this experiment of
long haul remote contesting will come to a conclusion for a while. My
suspicions are that heavy Internet video demand is partially responsible for
the high latency extremes to over 400ms which end up bringing things to an
unexpected (and most undesired) grinding halt. Bummer, Dudes.
Tnx to Herb/KV4FZ for his all his efforts during the many tests, and for
hooking up the 80m and 40m antennas for me to use tonight (also used the 80m
wire antenna on 20m instead of the yagi as only have two antenna ports on my
TS-480 down there).
I spent much of Tuesday with Mr. Tractor II resolving the recent earthslides on
the Locust Peak road, and today with Mr. Tractor I erradicating pothole and
other problems on the main 1.5 mile dirt road just to get to the start of the
road up the 1 mile road up the mountain. Now more rain is expected which will
undoubtedly result in more problems. If you've seen the movie Ground Hog Day,
that describes much of my (remote contesting) life right now!
