Unfortunately a real part time effort. My wonderful XYL decided that this would
be the perfect weekend to head south to Grand Forks ND for some shopping and
relaxation. If figured I would score points with her this weekend instead of on
the radio. It was very difficult leaving the radio Saturday morning with 15m
wide open to Zones 14/15 and 20. Wall to wall from 21.06 to 21.125. More than
once I checked the radio to make sure I was listening to 15m instead of 20m.
This sounded like the best opening since I started contesting in 2006, and I
had to walk away.
On Friday night I tried to grab a few Q's but missed the opening to EU on 40
and 80m was all NA stations. The sunrise opening on 40m coincided with 20m and
15m opening. I worked a few JA's briefly at my sunrise and a couple ZL
stations. before heading up.
One of the highlights was being called by ZL3TE and and another was breaking a
huge pileup on T8CW by a careful insertion of my callsign. Wish I could have
stayed around and played more. I bet 10m even came alive for those living
farther south.
Oh well, with the big SSB contest coming up in March, I have hopefulley earned
some brownie points!
