Comments:
Robb, N0RU, graciously hosted me for this year's effort (and last year too). His
QTH just up out of Woodland Park has the kind of commanding drop-off most of us
can only dream about. In the rig vs. antenna vs. topography equation,
topography is #1 by far!
Score was improved by 15% over last year - - probably because I'm finally
making better use of the second radio. I also followed K4RO's soapbox advice
to just keeping CQ'ing (even though you are only running 5 watts).
Last year, one of 3 sections I missed was NLI. This year I worked 8 stations
in NLI.
The missing section this year was NL. Heard VO1MP with a huge pile - but he
wasn't that loud. So with QRP, I decided there were more points to be had
elsewhere.
Headphones: Instead of the usual clunky earphones - this year I tried iPod
earbuds. Wow! they worked great and greatly reduced fatigue. Obviously not
advisable in noisy multi-multi phone contests, but its something I'll keep
doing in the right setting.
Antennas: TH-7; TH-2 (fixed to northwest); 3 el. mono 20; 2 el. 40-2CD; 80
meter zepp; and, Hy-tower.
Rigs: K-2 and an MP @ 5 w.
