I was lucky enough to be in Illinois for field day this year. Unfortunately, I
was only there for the last half of field day. I spent all day and most of the
evening Saturday in the car driving to Illinois. I ended up arriving at my
grandpa's house at 8PM. Then we drove to his local club's field day site -
W9NE. I had reserved a time slot on 40 CW.
Upon arriving we discovered that the 40 meter band captain had taken the 40 CW
station down and gone home.
We went back to his house and I set up a K0DXC 1D log. He also set up a 1D
K9MMS log and for about 2 hours we operated simultaneously on 40 and 80 with no
interference! Wow! I was only able to operate for about 5 hours - 11PM to 3AM
Saturday evening and then a half an hour before church, and a half an hour
before the contest ended.
Towards the end of the contest ON4UN and a few other EU stations called in with
the high beam pointed west! That was interesting. ON4UN was STILL loud.
Thanks to all the ops who worked me, I had fun.
73!
