Another record score . . record low! Compared to Howie's (N4AF) snake
experience my own excuse is lame . . . we had just walked into the house after
a marathon 27-hour transit from Tuscany. I was 5 mins late starting. Made 2 Q's
by hand while starting the computer, eventually back-filling into the log.
Couldn't raise anyone on 80 meters although signals from W9RE, W4OC, N4OGW were
good through static crashes. Actually I enjoy the static crashes .. . never
heard them on 80 at former QTH due to background urban QRN. So returned to 40
meters where I was pleased to work KI7Y and W7WHY among others in the closing
minutes.
Thanks, Ted (W4NZ) for carrying out the NSL score compilation duties
flawlessly. . . maybe you'd like a permanent job :-).
During our stay at Cortona, Tuscany by chance I came upon the antennas of
Omera, I5KKW while walking near the top tier of stone houses in this
classically beautiful Tuscan village dating from the Etruscan era, i.e. around
600 AD. I5KKW has 347 countries Mixed on DXCC Honor Roll and happened to be
sitting in his car outside the residence. So we had a brief chat. His lack of
English was only matched by my lack of Italian, so our conversation was short
but very congenial.
