Comments:
Like many of the postings this was my first ever VHF Contest and prior to this
in 25 years of being a ham I had made a total of two 6M QSO's. Seems like all
of us HF guys are desperate at the lack of propagation there and figured we
might as well give VHF a try.
Just sort of monitored the band here over the weekend. Got my 3 element M2
antenna up on Thursday. Band seemed to be in great shape on Thur and Fri. From
the postings so far seems like the better openings on Sat/Sun were east of the
Mississippi, very much like the 10M contest last December. Not much heard on
Saturday except VE6JW who was a beacon most of the day -- always there and
always loud. On Sunday morning we had an opening that started into eastern NE
and KS then moved west in CO. At one point I had 9 straight QSO's into DM79.
Then the opening moved south before it closed. I did manage a QSO with WP4O in
EL87 for the longest QSO of the weekend.
Overall had some fun and tried a new band. I will be back.
Scott/K7ZO
