Comments:
First time in over 20 years that I operated this contest from home. It was nice
to have air condx, a shower, and a understanding xyl with drugs since I was
still recovering from double knee replacement. Still missed watching the wx
and prop forecast a week before the test. Conditions were outstanding. I only
worked one west coast station though I heard many mid Sunday afternoon.
Congrats to Colorado, Ontario and Boston for massive turnouts. West Texas and
the Dallas metroplex deserve honorable mention...
I chose to put up a tiny M2 3 element beam at home since its front to side
rejection was excellent and really helped with the local line noise. I found
the FT-1000 MkV had a better preamp than the new K3, thought the K3 wins hands
down for close signal rejection.
I used a new Yaesu Quadra amp at 600 watts out and had no TVI/RFI complaints.
Guess the switch to digital and move off channel 2 makes a difference.
Good to hear moderate cw activity.
Thanks to my xyl N4PXQ who helped me run a temporary rotor line up the hill
since I still have limited mobility with my new stainless steel and titanium
knees...
