That was fun while it lasted!
Had to QRT at 15:30 in the middle of the second great morning opening to
Europe. Apparently my neighbor was threatening to pull down my tower with his
truck if I didn't stop interfering with his TV watching, actually only his sub
woofer.
Both Saturday and Sunday morning 20m was wide open to EU from here. What a
change from a week ago! Best DX was a VQ and A71, new DXCC for me, and with
only 100 Watts.
40M opened early Saturday afternoon to EU, good signals for a change. As usual
the zone 8/9 calls were consistently strong.
80m was horrible with high local QRN. tried several times to QSY to 160 and 80
at the request of the dx stations, just couldn't be heard with my sloper and
the 100 watts. Sorry guys I tried!
15m never opened to EU from here. There were the usual Caribbean and SA
stations. Early Sunday morning, 15 was open to the east cast as plenty of K1.2
and 3's were heard working EU.
I am not that strong at CW, but I am trying. I prefer S&P because it gives me
several chances to copy the DX call, especially at the speeds some of you go. I
tried to do a CQ run on Saturday during the JA opening. I worked two stations
quickly and then someone must have spotted me because I was hit with a flood of
JA signals, I could not copy any full calls. I tried for several minutes but
with a wall of CW around me, all the same signal strength I was quickly over
whelmed. I pulled the plug on that experiment and went back to S&P. My
apologies to my JA friends, hopefully next time my skills will be better. I do
not know how the DXpedition ops do it!
I am sure my call was busted by many ops with the weak signal, but it was still
fun.
