Comments:
Murphy made several visits to the shack this year. Three
separate fixes were needed; a high swr on the right radio
was found to be caused by a band data plug having pulled
out of the DX Doubler rear panel, probably caused by
pulling and shaking the audio cables to diagnose a problem
with the vox spuriosly keying on both radios. That problem
was traced several hours later to a bad 9v battery connection
on a mike preamp. The third problem to be found was that
the frequency data from one of the radios was not being
decoded by the logging computer, after working FB the first
24 hours. An hour of rebooting everything several times
and checking all connectors resulted in things back to
normal.
Normal in this context means very little success running
stations, a total of 36 stations responded to CQs during
the contest period. Ten meters was even worse than last
year, with only one short interval when I heard 4 PYs
for my only 10m QSOs. I CQed for nearly an hour after
that on 10m while S&Ping on 15 & 20; I never got a
response to those CQs.
We had some high winds through here Sunday afternoon,
bringing down a 50 foot high tree in the front yard.
The winds made it impossible to rotate the lower 20m
yagi on the TIC ring to SA so I gave the prop pitch
on the top 20 a good workout chasing multipliers.
My total score was almost identical with last years;
slight increases in each of the lowest 5 bands offset
the near total loss of 10m at the QTH. From my view,
the CW weekend can only be better propagation wise.
