Comments:

I have been out of the sprint action the past few months, so it was nice to get
back on.....What a fun night, with the K6VVA LQP serving as a warmup! It was a
blast hoping for the Locust's on each band, and to see who they were! Sort of
like hoping to get the VE8 in SS before the time ran out..... I felt very good
about working Rick, Richard and Joe on both 40m and 80m! They were swarming
mightily. Happy 51st Ham Radio Anniversary to the Locust!

The bands were relatively quiet here, but there was still some occassional QRN
that couldn't be filtered, and I had to ask for a lot of repeats. Listening on
the large delta loop provides a vast improvement on RX most, but not all, the
time. The Yaesu FT 2000 offers great improvement on receive compared to the
mobile rig that I had been using, and I am starting to get the hang of the
filtering and the extra receive antenna. I still have some tweaks to work out
with the logging program, as it would sometimes append an "r" to VA when I sent
my exchange...perhaps a double bounce on the enter key. Sometimes the program
would send my call when it should be answering to the person calling me....

I never seem to win a jump ball -- so this time, I tried to concentrate on
hanging out on the upper and lower fringes of activity, and that worked out
well, as this was one of my better scores from the temporary VA qth, getting to
40 Qs.

Nothing I can do about my low antenna situation, as the G5RV fell in winds last
month, and is now a sloper, with maximum height of 30 feet, sloping down to the
ground.

Thanks for the multiple contacts from N9CK (6); N3ZL (5); and N9RV (thanks Pat
for your patience - you have great ears - what is your RX antenna?), N9FC, and
W8UE (Ted, nice sig tonight) each with 3. I heard fellow CTDXCCer W5JAW with a
great signal but never could get timed to work him. Mentor N3BB had an
uncharacteristically weak signal this week during SNS, as he was operating
mobile, and I never heard him during the NS.

Thanks to all who make this Thurs. eve outing possible!
