Comments:
This is an amazing race among the three high scoring multi-multi
teams.
Congratulations to the KC1XX and K3LR teams and all of the other
multi-multi operators and station builders who make this
difficult game so challenging and so enjoyable for everyone
involved.
Those who've never participated in a multi-multi can hardly
imagine the effort and dedication that the teams pour into
preparing, organizing, coaching and executing these
competitions (this applies to all of the multi-multi stations,
not just the top three scorers). The members of the teams
learn a great deal from each other, and we're all better off
for the experience. And the competing teams share their
experiences and secrets with each other too (sometimes
unintentionally...). Its all part of one of the world's
best team sports.
Its great to see such a tight race among teams that faced
different challenges and unique propagation conditions, yet are
so close in claimed scores that no one has a clue who will
ultimately win! The judging of just a few dozen QSOs will
tip the competition to the deserving winner.
For the last few years the W3LPL team focussed on improving
its competitiveness on the 160 meter band. We installed more
than a dozen Beverages and phased Beverages on acres of land owned
my very friendly neighbors, convinced my neighbor W3UR and his wife
Becky that they really needed to allow me to install multiple 120 foot
towers for my new 4-square vertical array on several acres of their
land, then convinced them that I needed to cover their land with
30,000 feet of radials. The last straw was when I informed Burny
that now I needed to dismantle his 120 foot tower because it was
too close to my new 4-square vertical array! Believe it or not,
he said Y E S !!
Thanks Burny!
The convergence of good propagation, excellent antennas and
talented operators resulted in our 160 meter team achieving a
breakthrough milestone in Topband history: 100 countries worked
by a U.S. station on 160 meters in a single weekend! What an
amazing experience. We hope to do it again!
It was all made possible by my wonderful neighbors -- especially
Burny and Becky -- our tower builders, radial layers, sod staplers
(you know who you are), fence post installers (well over 100 posts),
RG-213 unrollers (well over 5000 feet), Beverage wire installers (well
over 5000 feet) and of course by the great operators who made it all
happen.
We were delighted to have Sejo, T97C (aka N3UA), join our team this
year. We're looking forward to his return for the multi-multi
battles in 2007.
So, as they say, here are our numbers!
