N1MM was scoring some USA stations wrong, and our score was 6.1M at the end, but
this is the real score.
A great warmup for WRTC! Thanks to Joe for letting us tear apart his station
and setup our own stuff. A rig mysteriously broke in the middle of the night,
but luckily it was before the contest. Easy to swap one of Joe's MP's in.
15m was fantastic before the contest! Just wasn't up to par during the
contest. We had pretty high hopes going into this, but it turned out OK
anyway. Nice to see 10m open on E, and 7 JA's were logged! Joe has a hill to
JA, and 40m has been a problem in the past. There is something about
summertime condx that makes 40m play real well there. 200 Asia worked on 40m,
and felt loud all night long. I am going to assume the angles are higher this
time of year (and in July for IARU) that make it easier with the hill in the
way. 40m was also great to Europe, a pleasant surprise.
A light hearted effort. Lots of fun, and no pressure to have 2 people slug it
out all night at 30/hr. Seemed to get plenty of naps the 2nd day. A SO2R guy
could have done pretty well this year from Joes. 15m was open all night both
nights, but no new mults and not really runable. There were plenty of new
stations to work at times, and a 2nd radio would have really come in handy.
I learned that you get a pretty cool light show complete with sound effects
when pulling out the coax that Ward is transmitting on. We also learned that a
B looks a lot like an E when it's the middle of the night. Thanks to 3V7A for
*repeatedly* trying to take my frequency. This usually happens, and is no big
deal. But geez man, try taking someone else's!!!
Again thanks to Joe for letting us tear apart his place. Also to Sharon for
putting up with us, and the wonderful food!
See you in PY!
